Photo dump of our trip through Yellowstone. It is geologically unique in the US being the caldera of a super-volcano. The soil is not deep enough to support most trees other than those with very shallow roots so 99% of the trees in the park are lodgepole pines. It is pretty but kind of homogeneous. Of course, the main attractions are the geysers and hot springs. The pools are quite deadly with water temps around 190F. It is also home to a lot of wildlife including bison, black and grizzly bears, deer, elk, pronghorn, and gray wolves. The bison often cause traffic jams. We waited about an hour for a bison to clear the road on the way out one day. In the summer, there are a lot of people and it's best to get out early or late. The Old Faithful geyser had a crowd 5 deep. The Old Faithful visitor center has a leaderboard with expected eruption times for many of the local geysers. Times were given with a window and other than Old Faithful, most were plus/minus 45 minutes. In 3 days, we saw everything we wanted in the park except the Grand Prismatic, but 3 days seemed about right.
