On a weekend vacation with the family, we drove out to Fonts Point, an overlook above the Borrego badlands. A signed dirt road leaves the south side of S22 for a 4-mile trip to the overlook. There were a couple of spots of deep sand along the side of the road, but most vehicles should be able to make it without high clearance or 4x4. We drove out an hour before sunset and it was surprisingly busy for a Friday night. The sun was trying to break through low, hazy clouds, but the shadow effects were less dramatic than they would have been on a clear day. We still got to appreciate the inhospitable landscape of the badlands. We found one county reference mark, but not the main benchmark. A last minute sandstorm was our queue to get back to the truck.
