2017 was a year of hiking firsts and lasts. Since I started keeping records, 2017 came in
last in total number of hikes (69), total distance (357 miles), and total elevation gained (96,197'). Yet, it was the year I completed the
Sierra Club Lower Peaks List and completed my
first technical sport climb (YDS 5.6 on Bishop Peak). It was our
first visit to Hawaii and our
first visit to Bryce Canyon and Zion in Utah. I completed a
first ascent of Unintended Peak in the San Mateo Wilderness. I deployed my
first trail cam in the wilderness. I felt the firsts outweighed the lasts this year.
